pronounced you-moo
Yumu means “universe” and “wood.” It’s a name that captures my approach: grounded in hands-on craft, but always thinking beyond the object. This is where my design practice began, with raw material, human needs, and form that serves. Formerly known as YUXIN - my original furniture design practice.
Why I Built Yumu
I started Yumu because I wanted to create things people would actually use. Furniture felt like the most practical way to express creativity; something functional, built with care, and made to live in someone’s space. I wasn’t chasing visual flair or high-concept art. I just wanted to make things that felt right, worked well, and showed thought in the details. That mindset; design for use, not display, is something I’ve carried with me into digital product design.
